The Accounting & Auditing division primarily assists our people in delivering quality work to our clients. Our main focus is on providing technical Accounting and Auditing support to the Audit practice. In addition, we provide accounting advice and training to clients.
The Accounting & Auditing division consists of three key areas, namely:
In order to adequately service our clients, our team includes individuals with the necessary skill, experience and expertise.
Audit and Regulatory
Professional Standards Review
We keep up to date with the latest developments in the accounting, auditing and regulatory fields in order to assist our people in understanding changes in these fields and how it will impact them and their clients while performing audit or other assurance engagements. We further develop tools and templates and circulate guidance to our people which assist them in having meaningful conversations with their clients around complex matters and to keep a high standard of quality service they render to our clients.
In our fast-paced, regulated environment, the need for sharing of knowledge is critical. Our learning initiative is geared at equipping our people with the necessary knowledge to execute efficient and effective audits. We are responsible for the Audit Technical learning across all the offices in Southern Africa and include mandatory training sessions as well as regular communication of important matters and hot topics which we believe are relevant to our people. We also provide Accounting support to clients on a variety of transactions.
As a Firm, we are subject to quality reviews by external regulators as well as internally as required by the Global Firm, on a regular basis. We co-ordinate these reviews and communicate the main findings to our people to create an awareness and encourage them to apply the best practices coming out of these reviews, going forward. We also develop and implement remedial actions to respond to quality review findings.
Influencing the profession
Our team is involved in the Accounting Practices Committee, Accounting Standards Board, Committee for Auditing Standards in South Africa (CFAS) and various subcommittees. We are therefore able to provide valuable input in the local standard-setting process. We also actively participate in the Deloitte global technical audit and accounting policy setting forums to remain involved in international standard-setting activities and to influence internal Deloitte policies.
