Deloitte United on the African Continent
Deloitte Southern Africa and Deloitte East Africa sign cooperation agreement
South Africa, 25 August 2010 -Deloitte East Africa and Deloitte Southern Africa (Deloitte) today signed an agreement, effective 1 September 2010 that will better enable the consistent delivery of client service across the African continent through coordinated processes, quality control, and targeted go-to-market approaches.
Jim Quigley, Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, who attended the signing in Nairobi, stated that “this was a defining moment for Deloitte in Africa. It exemplifies the commitment of our firms to their people, clients, and the communities within this vibrant region.”
Both the Southern African and East African CEOs, Grant Gelink and Sammy Onyango, respectively, view this as the next step in strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two member firms. The member firms will co-operate through a joint governance structure, with Grant Gelink being the first Chairman.
“This agreement is the first move in Deloitte’s strategy to bring together its member firms across the African continent,” comments Grant Gelink. “We look forward to combining and recognising the strengths of our cultural diversity to ensure that as our clients surge ahead on their Pan-African journeys, the member firms will provide excellent client service every step of the way.”
Deloitte Southern Africa and Deloitte East Africa are united in their desire to strengthen the Deloitte brand, presence, and effectiveness across Africa in order to be recognised as the standard of excellence, as expected by their clients and people.
As used in this release “Deloitte East Africa” means Deloitte Kenya and its offices in Tanzania and Uganda.
