Roy Andersen is an Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Murray & Roberts Holdings Limited. He joined the board in 2003. Anderson is chairman of the nomination committee, a member of the remuneration and human resources committee, the health, safety and environment committee as well as the social and ethics committee. He is a trustee of The Murray & Roberts Trust. Anderson also serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Virgin Active. He is an Honorary Colonel of the (Former) Transvaal Horse Artillery. Anderson serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Sanlam. His qualifications include CA(SA) CPA (Texas).

  • Roy has a background in the Defence Force
  • He is author of “Commanding Heights.” The book covers his parallel careers in business and the defence force, and looks at what the lessons were, what were the parallels, what were the differences
  • Every year between Christmas and New Year Roy sits down and writes out his goals for the year – he says he normally gets about 80% to 90% hit rate
  • Roy’s advise to young people: “It’s not about only what you do, it’s how you do it, so yes be focussed, work hard but keep a balance in life. I must admit that possibly I have spent too much time at work and at the Defence Force and not necessarily enough time with my family, so get the balance early on and be rounded.
