Roads
- Travel has improved overall and specifically during the World Cup
- Contributing factors identified include:
- Closure of schools
- An increase in the number of lanes opened on highways
- New roads in certain provinces

The improvements to the road systems has reduced travel times
Overall the experiences were positive but cost of travel high on some modes
Airports and Rail
- Improved security at stations and on public transport resulted in the increase use of public transport by locals
- The public were happy with the improved service they received on the Gautrain and at the airport
- Public felt safe and well treated in the Gautrain
- OR Tambo International was rated highest for facilities but Cape Town International and King Shaka Aiport were rated higher for security, punctuality and helpfulness of ground staff
The public hopes that the high standard set will be maintained.
Suggested improvement in the following areas includes:
- Gautrain ticketing process
- Pricing of certain modes of transport (Gautrain and air)
- Communication to bus commuter about delays and changes in bus schedules
- Facilities for women with children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the disabled
Opportunities identified by Department of Transport
- Sharing of successes and lessons learnt with different transport sectors
- Investigate a Smart Ticketing process
- Incentivise the use of public transport, consider consistency of pricing and possibly congestion pricing
- Comprehensive transport website that compares transport modes, costs, time schedules, interconnectivity, maps, etc.
