Business confidence of building contractors has been on a decline in recent years which has resulted in a decline in investments in the industry. According to the South African Reserve Bank, the official building and construction works investment to GDP ratio was 10% in 2010, down from 10.2% in 2009. As the economic environment becomes more difficult, Industry Insight forecasts this ratio to deteriorate to around 8% by 2012. Expansion into Africa and other emerging economies is a key focus of the major industry players.
