Managing change in the ‘mobi-payscape’

Mobile payments or m-payments, as an industry is still largely being moulded by various industry players both from a technological and a regulatory perspective. Furthermore, both global and local technology standards defining m-payments largely still need to be defined due to the immaturity of the industry. For the most part the industry remains divided at present. Indeed in time mobile devices may replace cards to some degree with the use of near-field communications (NFC) technologies, amongst others. It is important to recognise that the long lead times associated with developing these capabilities, points to a very real possibility for any single player to be left behind.
