We are looking to employ an experienced manager with strong business management skills to lead the Creative Services unit of Deloitte Southern Africa, which serves as an in-house graphic design capability.

The position will be based in Woodmead, Sandton, but the incumbent, and the members of the Creative Services team, will work on national and international projects in support of our winning business professionals and brand development specialists.

The highest standards of quality will be expected in the consistent execution of our international brand guidelines. The team constitutes graphic design specialists who work on state-of-the art equipment and compete comfortably at international standards.

The Creative Services unit reports to the Communication and Brand function, which forms part of the Clients & Industries capability of the firm.

About the job

Deloitte is looking for a senior manager to lead a dynamic team of graphic designers in the execution of the winning business and brand strategies of the firm. The team also includes a commercialization, administrative, workflow/traffic and production function.

The ideal candidate will be reporting to the Communication and Brand leader, and has strong production management, administrative and business skills, combined with a flair for the creative. The candidate should possess excellent people management skills and be equipped with the ability to manage competing priorities in a highly demanding, but rewarding, environment. The candidate will form part of the leadership team of the Communication and Brand function.

The candidate will be responsible for setting the strategy of the Creative Services unit, managing the day-to-day productivity of the staff in that team, building and managing relationships with leaders across the business, as well as vendors, and building the reputation of the Creative Services unit within the business. He/she will also be responsible for rolling out a brand awareness training strategy for staff in Southern Africa, and conceptualising strategies to support practitioners across the business in their consistent execution of the brand.

The candidate will be responsible for the complete commercialisation and budget management of the Creative Services unit, and ensure that effective processes for management and flow of work among creative team, and any outsourced vendor, is in place.

The key functions of this role include:

  • Accountable for the management of the brand execution strategy, driving best practice locally while drawing from international Deloitte best practice
  • Accountable for the development of training and awareness programmes with staff in Southern Africa on the effective application of our brand, including the development of supporting tools
  • Accountable for positioning the Creative Services unit within the firm, building relationships with key stakeholders (account management) and resolving issues
  • Accountable for effective processes for management and flow of work among creative team
  • Accountable for effective commercialisation of Creative Services, as well administration and budget management
  • Accountable for effective vendor management
  • Accountable for the service excellence and quality of all output from Creative Services
  • Accountable for the facilitation of people development, talent management and transformation of the Creative Services staff
  • Accountable for team work and overall cohesion of the Creative Services team

About you

This role requires strong production management, administrative and business skills, combined with a flair for the creative.

You would need to have the following experience and technical competencies:

  • A diploma or degree in business administration and 8 to 10 years relevant experience in an agency or large corporate environment, with demonstrable experience at a senior level
  • Strong business acumen, budget/financial management and people/process management skills
  • Strong strategic planning skills
  • Strong understanding of creative environment and processes, combined with strong experience in traditional production and digital creative outputs
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication ability in both verbal and written English
  • Project management
  • Planning and follow-up
  • Good conceptual skills and creative flair
  • Strong people management skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
