Sustainability and Corporate Citizenship
In 2009 we saw the delivery of a number of key positioning documents for the firm in the area of sustainability and corporate citizenship. In today’s interconnected global economy, the long-term value and success of business are inextricably linked to the integration of environmental, social and governance issues into corporate management and operations.
We have aligned our corporate citizenship activities with that of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu’s corporate social responsibility drive.

Our firm has reviewed the DTT policy recommendations on sustainability issues. We have adopted a corporate citizenship policy, environmental policy and corporate social investment policy. We still need to adopt a sustainable procurement policy as advocated by DTT. Other outstanding policies must be adopted in FY2010. In addition, we have collected data from our carbon footprint report and shared this with DTT.

South Africa remains alive with possibilities. The many challenges facing the continent, Southern Africa and South Africa, call for leadership. We have the ability and we are well placed to turn these challenges into opportunities for the firm. With our reputation as a trusted business advisor, we are in a position to make a significant contribution to our environment.
Dealing with global issues such as the environment, including climate change, human rights and corruption, will require innovation. This presents us with an opportunity by virtue of our role in the profession and expertise in this area. We can add a great deal of value to our clients as they grapple with integrating sustainability into their own business practices. I see a tremendous opportunity, as thought leaders in such subjects, to continue to inform public debates on policy and regulatory matters.
We welcome your feedback and look forward to continued engagement with you in the year ahead.
