Meet Tom Davis

Director of Federal Government Affairs, Deloitte & Touche LLP

The Honorable Thomas M. Davis – former Virginia Congressman and Chairman of the House Government Reform Committee – serves as the Director of Federal Government Affairs for Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he continues his commitment to effective, common-sense solutions to government.

Mr. Davis served seven terms in Congress representing Virginia’s 11th congressional district. During his tenure in the House, he served as Chairman of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, as well as the Chair of the subcommittee on Technology and Procurement Policy. Under his leadership, the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee investigated matters related to the effective administration of government programs of great public interest. These programs included government contracting in support of the war in Iraq, the Agriculture Department’s handling of the discovery of Mad Cow Disease in the United States, the flu vaccine shortage, the role of the National Guard in national security and homeland defense, and management of the Department of Homeland Security.

Other notable accomplishments include significant contributions to the 9/11 Implementations Act and his report on the federal response to Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Davis also provided sponsorship of legislation giving the Food and Drug Administration authority to regulate tobacco, and passage of the National Capital Transportation Amendments Act, which authorizes much needed capital reinvestment in the Washington Metro system.

Prior to serving as a Member of Congress, Mr. Davis was the chief elected official in Fairfax County, the eleventh most populous municipality with the second largest county budget in the United States. During his service as board chairman, Fairfax County was ranked first financially by City and State magazine in their list of Top 50 Counties. Mr. Davis received his B.A., cum laude, from Amherst College in 1971 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1975.
