According to the old adage, “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,” it is a faux pas to inspect a gift for its worth, but rather one should appreciate the value the gift brings to the recipient. In keeping with this concept, wealthy taxpayers can take a similar approach to considering a recent “gift” from the federal government — an opportunity to transfer wealth through the end of 2012 under a “relaxed” statute courtesy of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 (the “2010 Act”)
