Meet Dennis Metzler

Partner, Deloitte & Touche


Dennis leads Deloitte’s U.S. tax practice in Canada and has assembled a team of seasoned practitioners to help clients understand and adopt the mandates prescribed by the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).

Dennis primarily serves Canadian multinational corporations and private equity firms seeking advice on structuring investments in the United States. He has extensive experience in U.S. international inbound taxation including debt financing and workouts, treaty optimization, and the development of merger/acquisition and repatriation strategies. His work with private equity clients frequently focuses on complex debt instruments and capital structures used to enhance the tax efficiency of cross-border investments, including the U.S. tax reporting obligations associated therewith.  Among his clients are many of Canada’s most recognized manufacturers, technology businesses, and investment firms.

Dennis has over 28 years of U.S. international tax experience and has authored articles on various international tax topics for the Canadian Tax Foundation, The International Tax Journal and other recognized publications. He is a regular lecturer at the Firm’s advanced international tax schools and conferences, and presenter for Insight, Infonex, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), Bloomberg BNA | Council of International Tax Education (CITE), the Canadian Institute, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Fiscal Association (Canadian branch) and The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Tax Association.
