Meet Edward A. Gershman

Partner, Deloitte Tax LLP

Eddie Gershman is the Individual Income Tax National Competency Leader for Deloitte Tax. In this role, he directs a specialized team of tax professionals addressing  the tax and financial planning needs of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family groups, and family offices.

Eddie's career is a lesson in persistence, planning, and growth. He joined Deloitte in 2002 as a Partner after having been with another major public accounting firm in a similar capacity. In addition to his leadership responsibilities and client work, Eddie serves as a member of Deloitte's Strategic Wealth Planning Team; Estate, Gift, Trust, and Charitable Competency Group; Passthrough Competency Group; and Tax Controversy Competency Group. While at Deloitte, he has been interviewed by local and national newspapers, as well as local television stations, regarding tax matters.

"During World War II, Winston Churchill reportedly said, He who fails to plan is planning to fail,"  Gershman states. "Deloitte's approach reflects the sentiment behind that statement. We excel at helping our people plan and execute rewarding career options, just as we help clients prepare for and carry out important tax and financial planning decisions and transactions."

Eddie earned his Bachelor of Science in accounting from Indiana University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the Illinois CPA Society, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' (AICPA's) Individual Income Taxation Technical Resource Panel.

Away from the office, Eddie volunteers as Vice President of the board of directors at Near North Montessori School, one of the largest and oldest private Montessori schools in the country.  He is also on the Planned Giving Committee for Steppenwolf Theater, reflecting his interest in and passion for being involved in the Chicago theater community.
