- Boehner proposes, Obama disposes, fiscal cliff standoff continues – Discussions on how to address the $600 billion in automatic tax increases and spending cuts scheduled to take effect at the end of the year continued with no apparent progress this week as President Obama rejected a $2.2 trillion deficit reduction proposal by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, that includes $800 billion in tax revenue from limiting certain deductions for high-income taxpayers.
