  • Quick resolution on Bush tax cuts, extenders unlikely as Congress preps for campaign season – Fresh off their five-week summer recess, the House and Senate return to Capitol Hill September 10 for a brief work period before they adjourn next month for a final campaign swing ahead of the general elections. But the compressed work schedule and lawmakers’ general reluctance to take votes on controversial issues too close to Election Day means that taxpayers looking for certainty on the future of the Bush-era tax cuts and the expired and expiring tax “extenders” provisions likely will have to wait until after the votes are counted and Congress reconvenes for a lame duck session later in the year.
