- International tax reform efforts on hold for now, but taxpayer vigilance still advised – A White House official indicated that broad-based efforts to reform international tax rules will be on hold until next year as the Obama administration and Congress focus on health care reform legislation; but taxpayers should still be alert to the possibility of targeted action in the international arena in 2009.
- IRS issues guidance on expat tax rules – The IRS released guidance addressing the tax treatment of expatriating individuals under section 877A, which was enacted last year as part of the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008.
- ‘Genetic nondiscrimination’ regs will restrict financial incentives for wellness programs – The IRS released interim final regulations under the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 which, effective for plan years beginning on or after December 7, will limit the ability of employers to provide financial incentives in connection with their wellness programs.
