  • Reid, Baucus float expanded NOL carryback proposal – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., are expected to offer a four-year net operating loss (NOL) carryback relief proposal as an amendment to unemployment insurance benefits extension legislation that is slated to be on the Senate floor the week of October 25.
  • Corporate boards must oversee tax compliance, IRS commissioner says – Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Douglas Shulman advised corporate boards to keep tax issues on their radar screen.
  • Final pension funding rules include key changes for large plan sponsors – Recently released final regulations on determining the value of pension plan assets and liabilities for funding purposes and on applying the benefit restrictions to underfunded plans are similar to the proposed versions, but with some notable additions and clarifications.
  • Official previews ‘possible’ international projects for IRS business plan – An IRS official offered a skeletal list of “possible” international projects for the 2009-2010 Treasury-IRS priority guidance plan.
