Multistate Tax Alert: Texas Institutes Tax Amnesty |
On March 15, 2012, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced the “Fresh Start” amnesty program, which will run from June 12, 2012, through August 17, 2012. During this time, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts will waive penalties and interest for eligible taxpayers that file delinquent tax reports and pay all taxes due, or that amend reports that underreported taxes and pay the taxes due. The program applies to all tax periods for which the original tax return was due before April 1, 2012. Covered taxes include state and local taxes and fees administered by the Comptroller’s office, with the exception of Public Utility Commission gross receipts assessments.
