  • Senate extenders stalemate continues – Negotiations to move a stalled tax extenders package through the Senate showed no signs of progress, prompting Majority Leader Harry Reid to predict that the chamber is unlikely to approve a final bill until after the midterm congressional elections in November.
  • Finance Committee to move surface transportation funding bill in June, Wyden says – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden said that he expects to move a highway funding bill through his taxwriting panel before lawmakers adjourn for the Independence Day recess.
  • Wyden, Hatch announce tax reform hearing topics – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden and ranking Republican Orrin Hatch of Utah announced topics for the first three in a planned series of hearings on discrete issues in tax reform.
  • Top GOP taxwriters voice concerns about OECD’s BEPS project – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp and Senate Finance Committee ranking member Orrin Hatch expressed concerns about efforts by foreign governments to use the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) project as a way to harm U.S. businesses and the U.S. Treasury.
