- Tax left out of stopgap funding debate, but policy battle looms for fiscal 2014 budget process – Congressional Democrats and Republicans appeared ready to negotiate an agreement to extend funding for government operations for fiscal year 2013 without getting bogged down in a fight over tax policy; but the tax-versus-spending debate is likely to resume in the coming weeks as the House and Senate prepare to release their respective budget resolutions for fiscal year 2014.
- Camp to release discussion draft on tax treatment of small businesses – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., is expected to release a discussion draft on the tax treatment of small businesses as early as the week of March 11 as part of the committee’s ongoing examination of issues in corporate tax reform.
- Senate Budget Committee ponders cuts to tax expenditures as part of deficit reduction – Lawmakers and witnesses at a Senate Budget Committee hearing considered the merits of modifying or eliminating certain tax expenditures as part of a broader plan to cut the federal deficit.
