  • Baucus cleared for takeoff to China; Wyden poised to take over Finance Committee – The Senate confirmed the nomination of Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to China, clearing a path for Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon to become the taxwriting panel’s new leader and potentially take its approach to tax reform – and other legislation falling within the panel’s broad jurisdiction – in a new direction.
  • Ways & Means Committee OKs change to definition of ‘full-time employee’ under PPACA’s employer mandate – The House Ways and Means Committee voted along party lines to approve legislation that would alter the definition of a “full-time employee” for purposes of the employer mandate that was enacted in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
  • CBO director warns House budget panel of fiscal challenges ahead – Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Douglas Elmendorf warned lawmakers of the fiscal policy challenges facing the nation as he discussed the CBO’s just-released Budget and Economic Outlook for fiscal years 2014 through 2024 at a House Budget Committee hearing.
