Prospects for fiscal cliff agreement remain uncertain after White House meeting – In the wake of a private meeting between congressional leaders and President Obama and two days of post-holiday public discussion on Capitol Hill conducted largely through press releases and dueling Senate floor statements, lawmakers were poised to end a shortened work week without making significant progress on a deal to avert the fiscal cliff.
