Meet Marie Gervacio
Associate Director, Deloitte Consulting (Hong Kong) Limited
Marie has over 13 years of experience with investment banking, asset management, brokerage and private equity clients. She has been based in Hong Kong and working throughout Asia-Pacific for 10 years and prior to that, worked in Boston, focusing primarily on hedge funds and private equity. Marie attended The Pennsylvania State University and is a U.S. Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Massachusetts.
Currently, Marie is a member of the Finance Service Industry Strategy & Operations team at Deloitte Consulting and she acts as a subject matter expert on the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), advising on projects in Hong Kong and across the Asia-Pacific region and providing guidance to a range of financial institutions on the technical and practical application of the regulations.
Recent relevant experience
- Served as the Asia-Pacific project leader of a global impact analysis on the products, operating entities, functions and businesses of an international asset manager. Executed client deliverables and advised on gaps and available options and strategies to achieve FATCA compliance. Project management responsibilities included regional liaison, managing team resources, monitoring workstream progress and managing project economics.
- Consulting leader for FATCA services to one of Malaysia’s largest banks – the operations include banking, custody, asset management and insurance which cross-over IGA and non-IGA jurisdictions.
- Designed and implemented process changes on the FATCA implementation project of a Hong Kong-based regional bank, including design of target operating model scenarios covering legal entity and product classification, new & existing client onboarding/KYC procedures, third party relationships, documentation, monitoring and controls across major lines of business within the bank.
Operational risk & internal controls
Marie also draws on her experience advising on the implementation of a complex operational risk framework for a Swiss-based investment bank and asset manager, focusing on risk identification, gap analysis and the creation of more efficient and effective controls and governance across the finance and operations functions. The project included a detailed review and redrafting of existing controls procedures across legal entities overseen in the Asia-Pacific region, including Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Australia, China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
