- Senate to take on ‘Buffett Rule’ as lawmakers return from spring recess – With lawmakers back on Capitol Hill following their two-week spring recess, President Obama’s so-called “Buffett Rule” – the notion that wealthier individuals should pay tax at an effective rate at least equivalent to that of middle-class taxpayers – faces its first legislative test April 16 as the Senate votes on a motion to consider a bill that would impose a new minimum tax on taxpayers who have annual adjusted gross income in excess of $1 million ($500,000 for married individuals filing separately).
