- White House opening bid in ‘fiscal cliff’ negotiations falls flat with congressional GOP – Following separate meetings with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on how to keep the nation from tumbling over the “fiscal cliff” at the end of the year, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., rejected a White House proposal that reportedly called for a net $1.6 trillion in new tax revenue over 10 years plus $400 billion in cuts to federal spending.
- Camp reappointed as Ways & Means chairman – The House Republican Conference reappointed Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., to serve as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee in the 113th Congress.
