- No apparent progress in fiscal cliff talks as December 31 deadline approaches – President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, held two face-to-face meetings and traded new counteroffers in an effort to reach an agreement on a deal to avert the year-end fiscal cliff, but they remained fundamentally at odds over proposals to increase tax revenue and cut spending.
- Dems fill vacancies on House and Senate taxwriting panels – Congressional Democratic leaders announced additions to their party’s rosters in the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee for the 113th Congress.
- Tax Alert: IRS releases final regulations and interim guidance on medical device excise tax – A tax alert from Deloitte Tax LLP looks at recently issued final regulations and additional interim guidance under Internal Revenue Code section 4191 relating to the medical device excise tax that was enacted as part of the 2010 health care reform law.
