  • Baucus, Camp hit potholes in tax reform rollout plans – Prospects for imminent action on tax reform became less certain after Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus postponed a planned meeting with Democratic and Republican committee members to finalize his tax reform discussion drafts and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp suggested that he may not meet his goal of moving tax reform legislation through his panel by the end of this year.
  • Little apparent progress in budget conference negotiations – Members of the bicameral conference committee charged with hashing out a concurrent budget blueprint for fiscal year 2014 gave few indications that they were moving closer to resolving differences over tax and spending policies at their second public meeting.
