- No surprises (and few specifics) in Baucus’s tax reform remarks – In a speech that was largely short on details, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., indicated on June 11 that tax reform will have to raise revenue to address the nation’s fiscal problems, that deficit reduction will mean both spending cuts and revenue raisers, and that the Senate should avoid votes on volatile tax issues until a post-election lame duck session.
