Five ways to get more value

We have helped some of the largest and most successful companies in the world deliver more value from supply chains. Here are a few things we have learned along the way:

Lead with business goals. Do not let the bells and whistles of technology drive the scope of your transformation project. Stay focused on clear, well-defined business goals and bring your technology choices in line with that vision. This approach can make tough technology decisions a lot easier.

Commitment and consistency. Transformation is an all-or-nothing endeavor. Commitment and consistency are required for getting buy-in from the organization.

Build around what is built in. Oracle’s supply chain technology comes with a lot of leading business processes already built in. Make sure to use out-of-the-box capabilities in areas that are not points of differentiation for your business. It is an established way to keep costs down and remain focused on the processes and information that are most important.

Phase it in. A phased implementation by functional area is a smart way to reach your transformation project goals. Just make sure not to do it in a way that negatively affects future rollouts.

Seek industry-specific solutions. Chances are, many of the supply chain issues you are struggling with are the same ones other companies in your industry have already tackled. Lot tracking and traceability, electronic signatures, roll stock management, catch weight, rebates, charge backs, pegging, distribution – prebuilt industry-specific solutions can address issues like these in a way that reduces implementation cycle time and design risk.

  • When a process manufacturer started a supply chain transformation initiative targeting everything from strategy and process redesign to technology implementation, we helped with each step, combining deep process industry experience with hands-on technology experience. We helped implement Oracle Value Chain Planning products including Demantra and Advanced Supply Chain Planning to address issues such as forecasting, supply and inventory planning, strategy and operations and order fulfillment. Along the way we facilitated the change aspect of the transformation by engaging with the affected client organizations and regions.
  • We helped a consumer business company implement a supply chain transformation project that streamlined end-to-end forecasting, planning and execution, achieving significant inventory reduction in the supply chain. We helped deploy a standardized, central, global strategy and operations process that connected supply chain processes, including trade promotions planning, forecasting, inventory planning, supply planning and manufacturing execution. Today, this solution helps the company closely collaborate with key retailers, as well as dynamically position supply to match volatile shifts in demand.
  • After acquiring a large competitor, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of brand-name consumer home improvement products sought to keep management of the two organizations decentralized. Technology would play a big role in the combined company’s supply chain transformation effort which was intended to increase revenue and market share without increasing SG&A costs. We helped the company look beyond technology to focus on four key areas: simplifying the information environment, designing a “build any product anywhere” network, automating product configuration and creating scalable processes.
