What You Told Us: Big Data and Visualization: Bringing Patterns into Focus

Applying traditional data mining and presentation approaches to the continually expanding volume of structured and unstructured data can be a daunting business challenge.

On January 17, 2013, the Technology Executives Dbriefs series held the webcast “Big data and visualization: Bringing patterns into focus."

Marcus Shingles, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP and Vikram Mahidhar, director, Deloitte LLP, discussed how the use of visualization methods and tools can help bring patterns in your data into focus. To add perspective to the discussion, the presenters were joined by Kirsten Curtis, Director of Demand Planning and Business Intelligence at Safeway, one of the largest food & drug retailers in North America.  They also shared:

  • A view of data assets for business, analytics for data-driven decision making, and what big data means
  • Trends in data visualization techniques, including decision tools and processes
  • Ways data visualization can support business agility
  • Practical examples of how organizations are uncovering insights in big data sets

During the webcast, the presenters checked in with the audience to uncover how advanced visualization techniques are currently used, in which domain applying advanced visualization techniques may provide the most value, and what the most common visualization techniques are.
