Introducing the User Experience – How important is the User Experience?

With the explosion of enterprise technology, mobility products and social media, it feels like just about everybody is utilizing consumer and Internet technologies.  But how do you ensure that there is a usable and intuitive front end for the end users?  Apple justified not including an instruction manual with the iPad, “You already know how to use it.”  In many ways with the advent of these technologies such as the smart phone, this is what the end users have come to expect with their user experience.

But just what is the user experience?  The user experience is about the creative design of products, systems and services that allow the general user base to have a positive experience. However, an unfortunate finding is that users can be unhappy with their user experience as it relates to products, systems and services.

In the upcoming weeks, one of Deloitte Consulting LLP’s subject matter advisors on the topic will focus on the user experience to give you his perspective and some helpful hints on the topic.  We will also introduce what we like to call user engagement, which focuses on technical implementations from the “user down,” not the “system up”, defining your system from the eyes of the end user.  So check back often to learn more!
