Meet a Technology Black Belt: Tony Bright

A Technology Black Belt is our ‘go to’ authority for knowledge on a particular domain topic. You last met Chris Weitz when he discussed his perspectives on Cloud Computing Today, we meet Tony Bright, our resident specialist on SAP Upgrades. We caught up with him recently to see what he’s been up to.

What do you do at Deloitte?
I am a director in the SAP Service Line, focusing on assisting clients in upgrading their SAP platforms to the latest releases and enhancement/support packages. There is an additional focus on helping upgrade and migrate to the latest platform to help enhance business process and performance opportunities.

What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Building relationships with our clients and getting creative with delivering our services and solutions.

Rapid-Fire:

  • East or west coast? East
  • Favorite dish? Lasagna
  • Must-watch movie? “Pulp Fiction”
  • Last book you read? James Patterson “Private” London

What are some tech  accessories you travel with?
Tablet, smart phone, wireless hotspot and headphones.

What do you feel are some of the key agile development challenges that CIOs face today?
One key challenge that CIOs may face is the ability to quantify the business value of upgrading their SAP systems is a specific challenge. We understand that technology changes and that it is leading practice to stay as current as possible. When there are business disruptions, which can occur with upgrades, it can become difficult for CIOs to deliver the value conversation of why their organizations need to embark on the SAP Upgrade project.

Most interesting place you’ve traveled to?
I would have to say Italy – the culture, people and food are amazing.

Remember when we all thought we’d be in flying cars by now? Well, describe to us your “flying car future” prediction:
Predictive computing and the need for technology Upgrade Services. Software and hardware platforms will analyze and implement changes – without human intervention. For example, take your computer and its operating system. SAP will automatically determine when it is time to upgrade. It will provide the user with the list of enhancements and associated training recommendations.

Let’s hope this technology comes after I retire from SAP Upgrade Services…
