Meet Brian Umbenhauer

Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Brian Umbenhauer is a principal in Deloitte Consulting LLP’s (Deloitte Consulting) Strategy and Operations practice where he is focused on Supply Chain and Operations. Based in Chicago, Brian currently leads the US and co-leads the global Sourcing and Procurement (S&P) Practice. He brings 16 years of consulting experience with credentials across the supply chain with a significant focus on sourcing and procurement – including procurement strategy, transformation, organization design, process reengineering, detailed spend analysis/diagnostics, category implementations and IT business case development/implementations.

Brian is also recognized nationally as one of the leading practitioners and project managers delivering large-scale, multi-disciplinary, technology-enabled transformation engagements across multiple industry verticals.

His responsibilities have included both strategic and tactical purchases, as well as traditional and non-traditional procurements. His recent indirect category experiences powered by eSourcing technology enablers include service-related categories (e.g. temporary labor, legal), construction materials, facilities maintenance, marketing/print, IT hardware/software and travel, to name just a few.

Brian continues to be published in a variety of platforms on topics relevant to his area of skill/knowledge. Recent examples include: “The Untapped Potential of Procurement Outsourcing,” “Extended Business Relationship Management: A novel approach to managing today’s complex business relationships,” and “Retail Product Sourcing: Strategies to Differentiate and Defend” to name just a few. He is also a frequent speaker at various industry conferences.

Brian graduated from the The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Management Science and Information Systems and Business Logistics in 1996 and joined Deloitte Consulting in 1999 after a brief career in the Industrial Products Industry and Technology Supply Chain Consulting.
