Meet A. Scott Baret

partner, Governance, Regulatory and Risk Strategies, Deloitte & Touche LLP

Scott has over 19 years of experience working with Deloitte’s largest domestic and international banking and securities clients and has worked extensively in Europe and Asia. Scott manages Deloitte’s U.S. Governance, Risk and Compliance Management integrated market offering for financial services. He also leads Deloitte’s Integrated Compliance and Risk Management (“ICRM”) services, which seeks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of compliance and risk management related functions. Scott has completed a variety of financial operations and risk management consulting assignments for major banks, derivatives, and securities dealers. Most recently, he has lead a number of large and complex projects related to the current financial environment in the areas of operations, risk management, and governance. These projects have focused on assessing and improving operations, processes, methodologies, governance oversight, and controls.

Scott was a co-author for the chapter titled "Best Practices for Valuation of Financial Instruments in the 2004 Group of Thirty" report, "Enhancing Public Confidence in Financial Reporting", and recently co-authored Deloitte’s "Risk Management in the Age of Structured Products: Lesson Learned for Improving Risk Intelligence" and "Getting Bank Governance Right: The bank board member’s guide to risk management oversight" white papers. Scott has provided commentary and views on capital markets, risk management, and governance in various industry and professional publications. He is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the state of New York, and a member of the AICPA, the Risk Management Association, and the Professional Risk Manager’s International Association. He holds a BA from Gettysburg College and a MBA from Columbia Business School.
