Energy companies have learned to operate under regulatory scrutiny. Most energy companies believe they have this element of their business under control. Because of the importance of regulations to energy operations and markets, this has generally received executive attention for decades.
Due to recent financial crisis, the government has put in place new rules impacting the regulatory framework for energy companies. Moreover, changes to the regulatory construct in the energy industry continue to evolve, notably the Dodd-Frank Act.
