Kelly Saunders is a partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP and has more than 17 years of experience in the health sciences industry.
Kelly specializes in providing regulatory compliance and related services to healthcare providers. She has led dozens of regulatory compliance program assessments, implementation projects, and responses to government investigations. She has assisted boards of directors and hospital leadership in many enterprise risk assessment and program development engagements.
This experience has given Kelly both a broad and deep understanding of provider operations, particularly within hospital and physician documentation, coding and billing matters. She has also worked on projects in areas such as short stays and medical necessity, research compliance, hospital-physician financial arrangements, off-label use of drugs and pharmacy billing, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, laboratory and behavioral health.
Kelly has served several academic medical center and health system clients as an interim chief compliance officer and as an interim director of internal audit. She has assisted numerous clients directly and through counsel with investigations, Office of Inspector General audits and self-disclosures regarding documentation, coding and billing matters and has also led a number of Independent Review Organization engagements.
Kelly is a frequent national speaker on compliance programs, internal controls and other regulatory topics. She has an M.B.A. in health systems administration from Union College and a B.A. in accounting from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh.
