Tom Omberg leads the Financial Accounting, Valuation & Securitization (FAV&S) offering for Deloitte & Touche LLP. FAV&S provides advisory services relating to technical, operational, and compliance matters associated with domestic and international financial accounting and reporting, securitization of financial assets, and valuation of financial instruments. Tom is also a member of the Deloitte LLP board of directors.
FAV&S helps clients with the financial and accounting impacts of shifting regulations, changing accounting requirements, and emerging standards, including the preparation of financial statement and regulatory filings, and the application and implementation of complex accounting standards for U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
FAV&S also delivers products and services that support the valuation of financial instruments, modeling and model validation, and the lifecycle of securitized and structured financial products. In addition, FAV&S develops a full range of proprietary technology solutions associated with securitization reporting and analysis and other complex accounting reporting matters, such as leasing and non-performing loans. By helping clients respond to this array of challenges, FAV&S also assists them in creating and protecting value.
Tom has assisted numerous clients in dealing with accounting, valuation, and business issues related to derivatives, securitizations and structured transactions, investments, and consolidation.
Tom specializes in the application and adoption of both U.S. GAAP and IFRS in the financial services industry. He leads the organization’s credit crisis and valuation audit task force. Tom is also Deloitte’s representative on the International Accounting Standards Board Expert Advisory Panel. Tom has previous experience at a major investment bank in New York. He is a frequent speaker on accounting issues for financial services and capital markets.
