Your Update on Energy Tax Legislation

Date: May 27, 2010

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced this evening that the Senate will not be considering tax extenders legislation prior to leaving for the Memorial Day recess. This comes after House Democratic leaders have been finding difficulty in reaching a compromise on the legislation throughout the day.

House leaders are continuing their efforts to pass some form of tax extenders legislation prior to leaving for the recess. Sources on Capitol Hill indicate that leaders are considering paring down the bill to obtain the votes necessary, but its exact content is unknown. The House could consider the legislation tomorrow.

Without Senate action, however, tax extenders legislation including its revenue offsets will not be sent to the White House prior to the recess.
