EPA Greenhouse Gas Reporting Readiness |
Greenhouse Gas Reporting Readiness is designed to help businesses in their efforts to identify and establish procedures to collect the data they need to satisfy reporting requirements issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Soon, many U.S. businesses will be required to report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to the EPA. Data collection is to begin on January 1, 2010, and first annual reports must be filed by March 31, 2011 for calendar year 2010. However, not every affected company is aware of this requirement.
We can help you in your efforts to:
- Identify sources of GHG emissions and associated regulatory risk
- Determine the most appropriate way to measure, monitor, verify, and report emissions
- Close gaps in data collection systems and data retention policies
- Develop QA/QC protocols for self certification
- Understand reporting roles and responsibilities, data sources, reporting processes, and timelines
- Identify efficiency improvements and corrective actions, including ways to address the concerns of communities, regulators, and the financial markets
- Engage multiple levels of the business in the reporting process (e.g. facility, business unit, corporate, internal audit, tax)
Reports can become easier to prepare by identifying and finding missing data early on, and by resolving inefficiencies in data collection. The reporting readiness process can also reduce exposure to regulatory risk and provide insights for both carbon mitigation plans and sustainability strategies. By “getting ahead of the curve” for GHG legislation, your business may realize a competitive advantage in the areas of corporate governance, carbon trading and portfolio optimization, performance improvement and waste reduction, cost containment, and more.
