Computer Forensics for In-House Counsel

Expert examinations — A strategic specialist

DOWNLOAD
The issue

Computer forensic expert witnesses come and go. Typically they are engaged by outside counsel, and in-house counsel may have little control over who is hired, with inconsistent experience that may lead to increased risk to an organization. Frequent turnover of witnesses may mean an inefficient use of internal IT resources, who may be required to repeatedly provide duplicate information to new parties. Rate structures and hours expended may vary, making it difficult to quantify the value of the service.

Many in-house counsel could benefit from a consistent relationship with an expert witness, through greater control of the legal services supply chain and adding value back to their organization with cost reduction and risk mitigation. A strategic computer forensic specialist may be the answer.

Our offering

At Deloitte, we consider our computer forensic expert witness services as more than a transactional or one-off experience. We strive not only to provide a broad and competent computer forensic expert witness service offering, but also to add value to a client’s organization through continuing education, process improvement and risk mitigation.

Deloitte understands our clients have many diverse computer forensic matters and requirements and our team is built of experienced professionals across numerous technical areas including data breach, computer intrusion, employee data theft, corporate espionage, data destruction, mobile devices and discovery burdens. We also have access to a global network of specialists through Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited member firms and affiliates. Through our collective experience and drive for value, we can provide broad and cohesive expert witness services that may reduce an organization’s cost and risk. By building long-term relationships with clients, we are able to come to an understanding of the organization and IT infrastructure and can reduce time spent repeatedly reviewing the same information. Further, we seek fee arrangements that incentivize our efficiency, while maintaining the requisite independence required of an expert witness. Deloitte’s computer forensic team can provide in-house counsel with a service that drives value by reducing cost and risk and providing increased operational improvement and insight.
