The attached issue of Heads Up discusses the FASB’s recently issued Staff Position (FSP) No. FAS 142-3, “Determination of the Useful Life of Intangible Assets.” The FSP amends the factors an entity should consider in developing renewal or extension assumptions used in determining the useful life of recognized intangible assets under FASB Statement No. 142, Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets.
