Americans are more optimistic than a year ago as the 2009 holiday shopping season approaches, but still concerned about job losses and pay reductions. To better understand the outlook for consumer spending and the trends that can help retailers make important planning decisions, Deloitte LLP commissioned its 24th Annual Holiday Survey.

In the latest episode of Deloitte Insights, Stacy Janiak and Carl E. Steidtmann discuss the results of the survey. Stacy is vice chairman and U.S. Retail leader at Deloitte LLP, and Carl is the chief economist and director of Consumer Business at Deloitte Research, part of Deloitte Services LP.

Listen to the podcast to learn about expectations for retail this holiday season.
