Bio

Tom Captain serves as Vice Chairman and U.S. Aerospace & Defense (A&D) Leader for Deloitte LLP, and Global A&D Leader for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited. As an industry veteran involved in major industry consolidations, mergers, and transformation initiatives in the U.S., Europe, and Asia over the last three decades, Tom provides industry specialization to client teams and spearheads initiatives to support Deloitte's position in the marketplace.

Since joining Deloitte LLP in 1981, Tom has specialized in operational restructuring, industry strategy, investor due diligence, cost reduction, product development, engineering operations, manufacturing productivity improvement, information systems, and program management across multiple functions. Tom's A&D industry experience spans commercial passenger, regional and freighter aircraft, military fighter/attack, and cargo aircraft, defense electronics, avionics, launch vehicles, satellites, net-centric warfare, destroyer, aircraft carrier, missiles, munitions and land armament programs.

Tom has written several op-ed articles in Aviation Week and contributed regularly to its annual Top Performing Companies report. He has been quoted extensively in the media on a wide variety of industry trends, challenges, opportunities, and breaking news stories--in the Wall Street Journal, Defense News, Handelsblatt, Gulf News, and Beijing Times to name a few. Tom is a regular speaker at industry-wide events, including Aviation Week's Program Excellence Awards and MRO Military conferences, and participates in their annual Executive Summit of industry leaders. Tom was recently named by Defense News to their list of "100 Most Influential People in U.S. Defense".

Tom received his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington, graduated with an MBA from Seattle University, and also completed the executive education program at the University of Pennsylvania - Wharton School of Business. He is a member of the Seattle University Business School Dean's Executive Advisory Board, contributor to the Puget Sound Regional Council's Prosperity Partnership Aerospace Competitiveness Initiative, member of the Patrons of Northwest Civic & Charitable Organizations Board of Directors, and a member of the Aerospace Industries Association Board of Governors. He was formerly a trustee of the Museum of History and Industry's Board and past president of the Institute of Management Consultants, Pacific Northwest Chapter.
