Meet Rodney R. Sides

Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Rod has more than 24 years of experience assisting leading retailers in improving the efficiency of their operations and in increasing overall profitability. He currently serves as the Leader of the Retail and Distribution Practice, Deloitte Consulting LLP. His experience spans the entire enterprise including Store Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Back-Office Operations and Information Technology. He was the first National Leader of the Enterprise Cost Reduction Integrated Market Offering where he gained deep knowledge, skills and experience in cost optimization, helping his clients achieve significant, sustainable improvements in their profitability.

Rod has published several articles relating to retail trends including: "Race to the Bottom, How to Survive in the New Retail Environment," "Managing Inflation Risk in Retail: Leveraging Advanced Analytics to Weather the Storm," "Creating Headroom for the Fight" and "SG&A Book of Metrics for Retail."

Rod’s retail clients include those operating in specialty segments (apparel, shoes, accessories and sporting goods), department stores, drug, discount, grocery and mass retailers.

"Sustainable competitive advantage is never achieved via cost reduction, it simply provides an organization with more time to reset its strategic direction. The absence of profitable revenue growth that leverages the existing cost base will likely erode the value of the organization over the long term."
