Your Update on Extenders Legislation

The Senate came up short this evening on a vote to move forward with its latest version of tax extenders legislation. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., indicated that the chamber would not continue its consideration of extenders legislation until an unspecified later date – likely not until sometime after the July 4 recess.

Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., unveiled three official substitute amendments in the past three weeks to the House-passed legislation from May 28. After it became apparent that the modifications made to this point would not attract the necessary 60 votes for passage, Reid decided to delay further consideration until a more certain strategy to passage is developed.
