Ahead of the Spectrum

Public Safety Broadband Network Webinar

DOWNLOAD

As part of the Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2012, Congress approved up to $7 billion in funding for the Public Safety Broadband Network (PSBN), which is designed to operate in 20 MHz of the 700 MHz band—a large swath of wireless real estate. This was in response to recommendations from the 9/11 Commission, which highlighted the inability for first responders to effectively communicate with one another during a time of crisis.

States will have a significant role to play in the creation of this network. Given the strategic nature of such a network and the number of stakeholders that are expected to be brought together to create it, State CIOs should play an important part in the PSBN development process.

The webinar* Ahead of the Spectrum: Public Safety Broadband Network was presented to State CIOs and other interested parties as part of the NASCIO webinar series.
