Janet Moran

Bio

Janet Moran is the Global Tax Industry Leader, Global Tax Technology, Media and Telecommunications Leader and U.S. Tax Leader of the Media and Entertainment practice (M&E). She also serves as a NY-based Lead Tax Principal for global M&E clients.

Janet grew up in The Bronx, New York and feels it may have been her greatest influence in life. “I attribute 99 percent of my success to growing up in the City,” she says.

Janet earned her undergraduate degree in political science at SUNY Albany and her law degree from New York Law School. She then joined a public accounting firm to further her business background for a possible corporate law future. In the early stages of her career, on the job training exposed Janet to business, finance and accounting. Her experiences with the IPOs and mergers & acquisitions of media clients convinced her that accounting was a great career path with significant opportunities.

During her 22-year career, she has advised clients on a wide range of tax issues, including international tax planning; mergers and acquisitions, withholding tax reductions; Section 199 deductions; ETI benefits; R&D tax credits; depreciation and amortization acceleration; accounting method changes; credits and incentives; state and local tax planning and structuring; sales and use tax planning and savings; and federal, state and local tax compliance.

Janet has provided professional services to some of the leading M&E companies – many since their early start up years. She has advised and assisted as these companies grew and evolved into formidable organizations.

“The media industry is at the forefront of business because humans are creating, consuming and demanding media all day long. Every business in every industry produces media when it communicates with its customers and its people."

Janet is a frequent speaker at tax and industry forums, such as Georgetown’s Computer and Internet Law Symposium, Practicing Law Institute, ATLAS, Sundance Film Festival and Broadband Tax Institute. She also co-authored a comprehensive Overview of Internet Taxation that was published by the Georgetown Computer and Internet Law Review.

“I think my clients engage me and stay with me for my candor and responsiveness,” Janet says.

“I love my work at Deloitte,” she continues. “It’s a stimulating and diverse environment that fosters collaboration that leads to great results for our clients.”
