Don is a Director with Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Governance, Regulatory & Risk Strategies practice where he consults nationally with a broad range of clients in the areas of risk management and corporate governance. He has more than 35 years of experience, including more than twenty years in the electric utility industry including key management roles in internal audit, corporate planning, business process improvement, power generation, public relations and energy services. Don also held management positions in finance and operations for a major healthcare products company.
At Deloitte & Touche, his primary service specialty is developing and implementing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) processes. Don has worked with clients in a variety of industries to develop customized risk models that assist in determining risk exposure, identifying contributing risk factors, establishing risk tolerance thresholds, and developing risk mitigation action plans. He has developed risk infrastructure improvement plans that support integrated and sustainable enterprise level risk management processes.
Over the past 10 years, Don has played an integral role in developing Deloitte & Touche’s Risk Intelligence framework and implementation methodology. He has successfully applied this framework to assist clients in designing and implementing ERM programs that are consistent with the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission’s (COSO) ERM framework, International Standards Organization (ISO) Risk Management Standard 31000, and other authoritative risk management frameworks. Don has also assisted a number of clients in their efforts to meet new governance and internal control regulations. He has provided advice to governance clients in the areas of delegation of authority, Board of Director roles and responsibilities, organization alignment, and strategic planning.
Most recently, Don has worked with Deloitte & Touche’s Federal Practice to develop and launch a risk based Federal Program Integrity & Improvement service offering. He also recently led an engagement for one of the largest Federal agencies to provide a current state assessment and implementation plan for a start-up ERM program.
Don holds an MBA from Duke University and a BS in Business Administration and Accounting from Atlantic Christian College (now called Barton College).
