Meet Jack Midgley

Dr. Jack Midgley is a Director in Deloitte’s Department of Defense consulting practice. Jack serves top-management clients in the defense and intelligence communities as they address complex strategy and policy issues.

In 2010 -11, Jack served in Afghanistan as a Senior Advisor to the Commander, International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF), working with the top US, NATO and Afghan leaders on the transition of security responsibilities to the Afghan government. Prior to serving in Afghanistan, Jack was US managing partner at Munich-based Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and a senior partner at Ernst & Young Consulting, where he led strategy and transformation assignments for aerospace/defense, technology and government clients in the US, Europe and Asia. 

Jack has also led product development in both public and privately-held Silicon Valley companies, creating innovative internet software and business service offerings for B2B and consumer markets.

Dr. Midgley is an adjunct Fellow of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in political science (Defense Policy and Arms Control) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the M.P.P from Harvard University and a B.S. in engineering from West Point, and is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. Jack was Associate Professor in West Point’s Department of Social Sciences, where he taught economics and international relations and directed the National Security Seminar. He later taught economics and leadership at Carnegie-Mellon’s Heinz School and the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, and was president of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

During active commissioned service in the US Army, Jack commanded Troop I of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and served on the Army Staff, the Plans Directorate (J-5) of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the US Mission to NATO.

A frequent speaker on national defense and security issues, Jack has appeared on CBS, NBC, Fox and other media.
