Meet the Deloitte Center for Financial Services executive team:


Jim Eckenrode
Executive Director, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Jim Eckenrode is the Executive Director of the Deloitte Center for Financial Services, where he is responsible for defining and guiding the marketplace positioning and development of the Center’s eminence and key activities.

Prior to joining Deloitte, Jim served as the Banking Research Executive at The Tower Group. He joined Tower Group in 1998 and held other senior roles during his tenure. His thought leadership background includes publishing on topic`s such as Web services/service-oriented architecture, customer experience, the future of banking, top-trend initiatives, financial regulation, and overall trends and directions in financial services.

Jim’s eminence activities include being a keynote speaker at major industry and client conferences, including BAI’s Retail Delivery. Hehasalso been quoted in major print and broadcast media, such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, American Banker, The Banker, CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg, and National Public Radio. Adam Schneider
Chief Advisor, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Adam Schneider is a Principal in our Financial Services consulting practice and serves as the Chief Advisor of the Deloitte Center for Financial Services. He is also Deloitte’s regional lead for Banking & Securities, responsible for organizing our professional services to a portfolio of major financial institution clients in the Northeast.

Adam has worked extensively in financial services, managing Deloitte’s Securities Industry consulting practice from 1995 to 2001, and the Investment Industry practice from 2001 to 2007. He assists clients in major business transformations including product strategy, mergers and acquisitions, finance, technology implementation, operations improvement, and cost reduction. Adam led many of our efforts in the credit crisis and managed Deloitte’s Credit Crisis Task Force from 2008 to 2009. He is a firm knowledge resource in many areas including capital markets, investment banking, investment management, home lending, retail banking, and transaction processing.

Adam is active professionally. He has authored numerous publications, contributed chapters to industry reference books, and is asked to speak regularly at major business schools and industry conferences. Adam holds an MBA. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Full bio.

Don Ogilvie


Donald G. Ogilvie
Independent Chairman, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Having spent more than two decades in Washington, D.C. as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Bankers Association (ABA), Don Ogilvie is a highly respected authority on banking legislation and regulation, as well as the international banking markets. He joined the Center for Financial Services in 2006 and advises Deloitte's U.S. and global banking clients on the critical issues facing the industry, as well as helping them to shape innovative and forward-thinking solutions on how banks should be tackling their biggest challenges.

While at the ABA from 1985 to 2005, Don represented banks of all sizes across the country and oversaw the growth of the largest financial services trade association in the world. He has served as Executive Vice President of the International Monetary Conference, a group of CEOs at the 80 largest financial institutions in the world, and as president of the International Finance Conference, a forum for the CEOs of the largest regional banks with a program focus on international banking issues surrounding the global economy. Don is also the founder and former chairman of ABA International, where he oversaw the trade association's international activities in Europe and China.

Don was formerly the Executive-in-Residence at the Yale School of Management. He holds a BA in Business from Yale University and an MBA from Stanford University. Full bio.

Howard Mills

Director & Chief Advisor, Insurance Industry Group, Deloitte LLP
Chief Advisor, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Howard Mills, former Superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department, is Chief Advisor with Deloitte LLP’s Insurance industry group, where he works with both U.S. and global insurance clients in solving their most challenging problems, on issues such as growth, globalization, regulatory issues, and managing the complexities of compliance.

Prior to joining Deloitte, Howard was appointed Superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department in December 2004. During his tenure there, he led the department’s transition to conducting risk-based exams, as well as signed landmark settlement agreements with the world’s largest insurers and U.S. insurance brokers. Howard created a corporate practices unit in the insurance department’s Office of General Counsel and was a national leader of issues such as natural catastrophe planning, the future of the life settlements industry, and business continuity planning.

Howard has also served as Commissioner of the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims, was a member of the Presidential Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee, and was also a member of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors. Full bio.

Sean Cunniff
Asset Management Research Leader, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Sean Cunniff is the Head of Private Equity, Hedge Funds, and Mutual Funds Research for the Deloitte Center for Financial Services. In this role, Sean is responsible for driving eminence and thought leadership for the Asset Management practice. Sean most recently served as a Senior Vice President for SunGard Financial Systems Wealth & Retirement business where he led and managed multiple product lines. Prior to SunGard, Sean was a Research Director for the Brokerage and Wealth Management practice at CEB|TowerGroup where he provided research, advisory, and consulting services to financial institutions and technology vendors. While at CEB|TowerGroup, Sean's marketplace eminence included frequent placement in top tier and industry media including The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Investment News, American Banker, Ignites, and FundFire.

Before joining CEB|TowerGroup, Sean served as the Director, Distribution and Investments, for AARP Financial where he developed and managed mutual funds and related services and as a Vice President of Product Management for JPMorgan Chase where he was the lead product manager for an offering targeting IRA rollover assets. Sean has also held Product Management and Development roles at John Hancock Financial Services and Fidelity Investments.

Sean is a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School. He is a Certified Financial Planner and a licensed attorney in the state of Massachusetts. Full bio.

Sam Friedman
Insurance Research Leader, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Sam Friedman is the Insurance Leader for Deloitte Research at Deloitte’s Center for Financial Services, putting his journalistic skills and three decades of industry experience to good use by analyzing the latest trends and identifying the major challenges confronting the property-casualty and life insurance industries. He joined Deloitte in October 2010 after 29 years at National Underwriter (NU) Property& Casualty (P&C), where he served as Editor-In-Chief, running the day-to-day editorial and research operations of NU’s weekly news magazine and daily online news service, while offering commentary via his award-winning column and blog, A View From The Press Box. Sam was also Group Editor-in-Chief of the P&C Media Division at NU’s parent company, Summit Business Media, overseeing American Agent & Broker, Claims, Florida Underwriter, and Tech Decisions for Insurance.

Sam joined Deloitte after partnering with the firm on a groundbreaking “P&C Producer Satisfaction Survey” in 2009, one of many proprietary research projects run by NU. He is a frequent speaker at industry events and a conference planner as well, helping put together NU’s yearly Insurance Executive Conference and NU’s National Trends Program at the annual Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference.

Surabhi Sheth
Real Estate Research Leader, Deloitte Center for Financial Services

Surabhi Sheth is the Real Estate Research Leader at Deloitte's Center for Financial Services.

A professional with more than 12 years of experience, Surabhi began her career as an Assistant Finance Manager in an IT/publishing start-up. Subsequently, she took roles in equity research in captive knowledge process offshoring, such as Zacks Investment Research and Netscribes. Prior to joining Deloitte, she led the captive credit research unit of Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) and tracked the Investment Grade Real Estate and Homebuilders sectors. At BAML, Surabhi partnered in the initiation of coverage of the overall real estate investment trust (REIT) sector, and health care and apartment subsectors. Among other publications, Surabhi contributed significantly to the Real Estate Capital/Liquidity update (2009), REITs Weekly Pricing Sheet (2009–2010), and The REIT Handbook (2005–2006). Surabhi also partnered in the initiation of coverage of the Investment Grade Homebuilding and Retail sectors, including cross-overs. Full bio.

Val Srinivas

Val Srinivas

Val Srinivas is the Head of Banking & Securities Research at the Deloitte Center for Financial Services. Val is responsible for driving the Center’s research platforms and delivering world-class research for our clients.

Val has more than 15 years of experience in research and marketing strategy in the credit markets, asset management, wealth management, risk technology, and financial information markets. Before joining Deloitte, he was the Head of Marketing Strategy in the institutional advisory group at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Val spent more than nine years leading the global market research and competitive intelligence function at Standard & Poor’s. Full bio.
