Edward Hida is the global leader of Risk & Capital Management and a partner in the Governance, Regulatory and Risk Strategies practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP where he leads our Risk & Capital services. He serves some of our largest banking, derivatives and securities dealer clients. Ed has substantial experience consulting on a variety of financial risk management and capital markets issues, including: systemic risk, enterprise risk management, economic and regulatory capital including Basel, credit risk management, market risk including value at risk, derivative financial instrument valuation, model validation, trading and risk management systems, operational risk, treasury and investment operations and internal control, and accounting policies and procedures.
Ed has completed a wide range of risk management consulting assignments for major banks, derivatives and securities dealers, insurance companies, finance companies, hedge funds, exchanges, clearinghouses and payments providers, both in the U.S. and internationally. These assignments have spanned the range of risk management issues from policies, procedures, governance, and infrastructure, to methodology, quantitative techniques, and systems. One of Ed’s clients was recognized by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) as both the Grand Prize Winner and Category Winner for Risk: Advanced Risk Management Methodologies.
Ed has been active in providing commentary and views on capital markets and risk issues to a variety of financial and general news media outlets. He authored the articles, "Risk Management: An Overview of Practices" in Directors Monthly, and "Risk Management in Top Financial Firms Continues to Evolve" in Bank Accounting & Finance. He also co-authored several chapters in the book by Institutional Investor, "Asset/Liability Management of Financial Institutions: Maximizing Shareholder Value through Risk-Conscious Investing." He has been interviewed on Bloomberg TV, Sky Business TV and quoted on risk management issues in Bloomberg News, Financial Times, Time Magazine, New York Times Deal Book and in various industry and professional publications.
Ed is the editor of Deloitte’s Global risk management survey, seventh edition (as well as several prior editions of this survey report), the co-author of Deloitte’s Improving bank board governance: The bank board member’s guide to risk management oversight, Deloitte’s Risk Committee Resource Guide for Boards and Deloitte’s Risk Management in the Age of Structured Products.
Ed started his financial services career with a major mortgage lender, where he had a mortgage servicing operations role. He later served in a finance role at a major health insurance provider.
Ed is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of New York. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the International Association of Financial Engineers, the New York Society of Security Analysts, the Risk Management Association, and the Professional Risk Manager’s International Association. He has a Bachelor in Business Administration degree, Finance, and a Master of Science degree, in Management, from the University of Wisconsin.
